There are many of the best Latin American restaurants spread out around the City, from Argentina to Venezuela and every letter in between, but some of us are afraid to visit those restaurants we don’t know anything about!
So we decided to featured some of the most traditional dishes from some of Latin America countries so that next time you have the taste from something different and feel adventurous, you know where to go and how to order.
Here are some of the many tradtional meals from Latin America.
- AREPAS: a corn pancake, sweetened or unsweetened, eaten in Venezuela and Colombia.
- ROPA VIEJA: (National Dish of Cuba) … Shredded beef and vegetables that resemble a heap of colorful rags – that’s Ropa Vieja. From the Spanish term for “old clothes”, this is one of Cuba’s most popular and beloved dishes.
- PUPUSA: is a traditional Salvadoran dish of a thick corn tortilla stuffed with a savory filling. It is typically accompanied by curtido, and tomato salsa. Pupusas are also a popular dish in Honduras, especially in southern regions.
- BANDEJA PAISA, typical dish at the Antioquia region of Colombia. It consists of chicharrón (fried pork belly), black pudding, sausage, arepa, beans, fried plantain, avocado egg, and rice.
- TAMALES: A tamale is a traditional Mesoamerican dish but mostly known as a Mexican dish. It is made of masa or dough, which is steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf. The wrapping is discarded before eating.
- CANOA DE PLATANOS: Canoa is Puerto Rican for boat or canoe and Canoas de Platano Maduro make for a great snack or as a main meal when served with rice and beans.
